100 Years of Fashion

If you are a dedicated follower of fashion like me,(sorry but I had to include The Kinks in somewhere) you will have realised that by now fashion has many wrinkles.Hey, it probably resembles a bulldog by now and is in much need of some anti-ageing cream. Fashion has been around longer then any of us, even longer than Bruce Forsyth, if you can believe it. It started with two fig leaves, they were very fashionable in the beginning. That's if you believe that, but due to being politically correct and unbiased fashion also started with the rugged cave man look and I hear that having a huge amount of body hair was very popular in the ape times. That would be good for us women,we wouldn't have to be running to the waxer every five minutes. Even before that dinosaur skin was the look to be seen in. So there have been many things happen in fashion. Its evolved with the earth, do you think there are anthropologists and philosophers sitting in a room somewhere stroking their chins asking what is the meaning of fashion and how did it evolve? Anyway, I'm digressing.

To launch Westfield Stratford City which is opening in er Stratford today, the lovely people have created the most amazing advert. It is a video of 100 years of fashion in 100 seconds. The two dancers Waltz, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Jive, Groove and Rave their way through the years. Thank god they didn't include the robot. Or dad dancing. It covers every movement and trend in fashion. Just watch how over the years the skirt length rises and the heels get higher. Notice how the guy goes off the screen in the 40s to symbolise World War Two. At the same time, we see women wearing trousers for the first time. At last,no more shaving our legs in the winter.Result! There are sixty gorgeous outfits in total, with six for each decade. Kudos to the dancers who had to perform this dance at least 150 times while the riots were taking place in London. Maybe that's why they were rioting, they wanted the bowler hat back. This video is fabulous and is very addictive. Definitely worth watching. So fashion has gone through many changes in the last 60 million years, trends have grown wrinkles and some have been injected with a hefty amount of Botox and given a new life again. What fashion trend will be given a new life next? Let's just hope its not the aboriginal look. All that kangaroo skin, ochre and animal fat. Not a good look.
Enjoy :-)

  2. Love this, you're so funny! And I absolutely love that video! And the idea of being a cavewoman. I can't think of anything more appealing than running round in fig leaves, sending my man out to hunt, and spending my days writing upon cave walls. Bliss!

Can't wait to see more of your stuff! :) xXx
